The Cornish pasty is the next battleground for Northern Foods over the award of Protected Geographical Indication status.
The prepared foods giant is trying to prevent The Cornish Pasty Association's PGI bid just weeks after failing in its legal battle to date with the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association.
Pasty association bosses were expecting a decision from Defra last month as to whether it would support its campaign.
