Budget plans 12% excise duty for computers, 4% CVD for imports
New Delhi, Feb 28 (PTI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today announced an array of taxes for IT and Telecom sector, including 12 per cent excise duty on computers, eight per cent duty on packaged software and four per cent countervailing duty on finished imported goods.
Presenting the Union Budget 2006-07, he also imposed an excise duty of 16 per cent on set-top boxes not covered under the Information Technology Agreement (ITA) while such duty on storage devices - DVD drives, Flash Drives and Combo drives - had been scrapped from the earlier 16 per cent.
