Mar. 1--Berks County labor leaders said Tuesday that they welcomed a plan to allow local teachers unions to join the 9-million member AFL-CIO.
Labor leaders said the move will help all union members in Berks.
On Monday, the AFL-CIO and the National Education Association announced a partnership in which the NEA will allow its local affiliates to join the labor federation.
The hope is that the AFL-CIO will give teachers more muscle when they campaign for political candidates and push legislation.
