PULLMAN, WASH. -- Washington State athletic officials scheduled a news conference for today at which men's basketball coach Dick Bennett was expected to announce his retirement.

The former University of Wisconsin coach will be succeeded by his son, Tony.

Bennett, 62, was hired in March 2003 to rebuild the Cougars program but has said recently he likely would retire after this season. With two games remaining in the regular season, Washington State has an 11-14 record, including a 4-12 mark in the Pac-10. Bennett has a 36-46 record in three years at WSU.

Bennett led the Badgers to the 2000 Final Four.
