On January 23rd, 2006, China and Saudi Arabia signed five cooperation agreements in Beijing, including one on "oil, natural gas and mining cooperation protocol" , between Abdullah, the visiting King of Saudi Arabia, and Hu Jintao, president of P. R. of China.
Both sides promised to take advantage of their growing oil business to further develop a broader economic and diplomatic partnership. China is one of the most important oil markets, and Saudi Arabia is one of the most important suppliers of oil for China. China imports 450 thousand barrels of oil a day from Saudi Arabia presently.
