Though his Coon Rapids girls' hockey team lost the Class 2A state championship game, coach Rob Potter kept a firm grasp on the big picture.
The Cardinals, who went 11-15-1 last season, broke new and important ground by reaching the title game in their first state tournament appearance. Even a 6-1 loss to Eden Prairie on Saturday night at the Xcel Energy Center couldn't take that away.
"We went from here to here in just one season," he said, holding his hands about 4 feet apart. "That took a lot of heart and commitment. Every kid on this team is a champion, in my opinion."
