Guitarist and singer Vusi Mahlasela is revered for speaking the truth in his native South Africa. His nickname reflects his reputation.
"I'm called `The Voice,' " Mahlasela said from a U.S. tour stop, "and I have a responsibility. I want people to see how important it is to honor each other."
Mahlasela's contributions to the score of the Oscar-nominated "Tsotsi" are his latest way of fulfilling that responsibility. By happy coincidence, the film opens in Boston today and Mahlasela performs at the Somerville Theatre tonight.
