One of fashion's first rules is that everything comes back. Yet the axiom is hardly black and white. Some looks boomerang with more frequency than others--the high-necked Victorian blouse, for instance. Then some never go away: Hello, oversize Jackie O sunglasses of the Seventies. But the Eighties are a different matter altogether. That much reviled decade seemed to have a DO NOT RESUSCITATE order hung firmly around its neck. Then time passed--some 20 years--and with it came the flattering glow of nostalgia. And so it happens that the era typically characterized by excess, anarchy and lots of shoulder pads is back in the collective style consciousness.
