Being the man of the evening produced mixed emotions for retiring U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde.
The conservative icon from Wood Dale says he's very grateful that the DuPage County Republican Party celebrated its Lincoln Day Dinner as a "Salute to Henry Hyde."
But he said the Friday night event in Oak Brook was a reminder that his more than 30 years of representing the 6th Congressional District is drawing to a close.
"This marks the beginning of the end," said Hyde, whose district includes parts of northwest Cook and much of DuPage counties. "Goodbye is not my favorite word."
