Rachel weisz and Wallace and Gromit were crowned Britain's winners at the Oscars, while the low-budget race drama Crash upset predictions to take best picture. The acclaimed gay cowboy movie Brokeback Mountain won three of its eight nominations, including best director for Taiwan-born Ang Lee. Crash, the film thought to have been made for just pounds 3.7m and starring Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock and Thandie Newton, also won three Academy Awards.
