STANDING in the shadow of the ultra-modern Mailbox, the Craven Arms is one of Birmingham's architectural gems.
As we searched for sanctuary from the cold, the pub's warm glow was perfect and the simple menu easy to negotiate.
For starters, I had smoked bacon and egg with cherry tomatoes and my partner had soup of the day.
The two eggs perched on top of the ample salad looked inviting.
But the proof of any egg is in the breaking of the yolk and the way it ran down across the bacon salad reminded me of my nan's breakfasts.
The mushroom soup was warm and thick and the old fashioned bread was gone ...
