HOLLYWOOD _ Sure, Sunday's Academy Awards are Hollywood's ultimate celebration, but what everyone wants is a piece of the red carpet.
That includes the stars and their publicists _ who plot their red carpet strolls with surgical precision _ the hi- and low-tech media _ that try to cash in on the nation's seemingly insatiable appetite for celebrities looking designer-label fabulous _ and a pair of 19-year-olds from Beaver Falls, Pa.
"Excuse me, sir. Can I have a scrap of the carpet?" nursing student Kristy Holoweiko asked a tall, burly worker on the crew laying down the 500-foot-by-33-foot carpet along ...
