Mar. 5--PEORIA -- The city of Peoria wants to hook you up -- to the Internet.
The concept of Wireless Fidelity, where online connections are made via radio waves, is a hot topic across the country.
Peoria is one of an estimated 300 cities working on some kind of a community-wide Wi-Fi program, according to a task force that's been looking into the matter here for more than a year.
For the technologically deprived, wireless service means a laptop user can go online wherever that person happens to be -- without plugs or hook-ups of any kind -- and work online, review e-mail or just merrily surf the Web.
