Article: EDITORIAL: Human Rights: United Nations must do better at council reform.(Editorial)

Mar. 7--When it comes to the United Nations, the United States has been obstinate and derisive. Perhaps that's why U.S. Ambassador John Bolton stands alone in his quest to block proposed reform of the UN Commission on Human Rights. Problem is, this time Bolton is right.

The reform proposed by General Assembly President Jan Eliasson would vastly improve the stagnant body that seated such notorious human rights abusers as Libya and Cuba. The new Human Rights Council would be more responsive, meeting more often and for longer periods. To gain a seat, individual nations would need backing from a majority vote of the General Assembly's 191 members, instead of a slate ...
