Camillus planning board members will serve five-year terms instead of seven years from now on, despite opposition from some of the planning board members themselves.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Camillus town board decided to supersede state law and phase in shorter terms as the terms of current members expire. A planning board member still can serve an unlimited number of consecutive terms under the new policy.
Reducing terms from seven years to five is a mistake, said planning board member Donald Fittipaldi, of 115 Hawthorne Drive. He is a former town supervisor.
