question: Many Japanese visitors shop in my store, but fewer buy than I'd like. How can I sell more to these customers?
Answer: To sell more, you have to better understand their buying habits. That calls for market research. In your case, I'd recommend having someone fluent in Japanese survey customers in your store. Keep it short, so it takes about a minute. Offer those who participate a coupon (with Japanese text) good for store merchandise.
Ask them which guidebooks and magazines they read before coming to Hawaii (and which they have on them at the moment). How many souvenirs will they return to Japan with? What price ranges are they looking for?
