If you're afraid of heights, be advised - don't get too close to the edge of Hoover Dam.
From the highway it appears safe enough, but park and walk to the side and your stomach is apt to lurch. It's a long, long way down - 726.4 feet, to be exact. Look around and you can tell which visitors suffer from vertigo. They're the ones with sweaty palms slowly backing away from the waist-high wall separating them from oblivion.
For the rest, visiting Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, which backs up 110 miles behind the dam, is merely a jaw-dropping experience - and one that prompts plenty of questions. Such as: ...
