POPE Benedict XVI is to visit Britain next year.

The new Pope will arrive in the UK in September 2007 - exactly 25 years after the last papal tour by John Paul II in 1982.

Exact details of the official visit are being kept under wraps amid security fears.

But Scotland's Catholic bishops backed a bid by the church in England and Wales to invite the Pope to the UK.

And in the clearest hint that he will come north, Cardinal Keith O'Brien ...
