Lake Oswego's lead dwindled, but this year it never got away.
The second-ranked Lakers held off No. 1 South Medford down the stretch to defeat the Panthers 59-57 in the championship game of the OSAA Class 4A boys basketball tournament Saturday night at McArthur Court.
One year after Lake Oswego let a 10-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter during a championship loss to Jesuit, the Lakers had a five-point lead with four minutes remaining. South Medford eventually cut the lead to one point but got no closer.
