Mar. 16--SANFORD -- The alternate site for a planned new Midway Elementary School is polluted with arsenic -- as was the first choice -- and officials are scrambling to determine whether it is safe to build a school there.
The new school, which was supposed to be up and open by now, is on hold once more after soil and groundwater testing found arsenic at the proposed site on old farmland east of Sanford, just down the road from the original polluted site. The tests showed arsenic at about three times acceptable levels. Seminole County school officials plan more testing to see whether they can find a clean location for the school ...
