James Hopson, Wisconsin State Journal publisher, is ready to embark on a new career at the end of 2006: retirement.

The 59-year-old native of the St. Louis area said in a State Journal story today that he decided to retire while he and his wife, Julie, "were young enough and physically vigorous enough to do what we want to do and have deferred." He mentioned hiking across the United States and writing a book about the journey as a possibility.
