Mar. 7--ESMOND, N.D. -- Tamara Keller is waist-deep in furry, friendly horses these days. Her family's farm, nestled in the rolling hills and bluffs of Benson county southeast of Rugby, N.D., is home to cattle and sheep, plus about a dozen miniature horses just steps away from the farmhouse.
"When I was a child, my grandfather raised ponies," Keller reminisces. "I always had a soft spot for their fat little faces." Laughing, she describes how she was injured by a young Arabian a few years back. "My husband told me to sell that horse and get miniatures because they wouldn't kill me."
Keller intended to start out small.
