Mar. 19--CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Once a long shot, Chris Coste is a man with a real shot.
Before Phillies camp opened last month, Coste, a 33-year-old corner infielder and catcher and career minor-leaguer, seemed to have little chance to make the 25-man roster. But after a monster spring in which he has several big hits, Coste has opened eyes in the organization and has a legitimate chance to make the team as the team's fifth and final bench player.
"I think Coste is serious, and I'm serious about Coste, too," manager Charlie Manuel said.
