For every tax dollar Minnesotans sent to the U.S. Treasury in 2004, they got back 69 cents in federal spending - a dime less than 10 years ago, according to a new study by a nonpartisan think tank in Washington.
The Tax Foundation calculates that only three states got less money back from the federal government: New Hampshire, Connecticut and New Jersey.
But the author of the report, released Friday, concludes that the disparity has less to do with a congressional delegation's ability to win pork-barrel spending than with relatively high incomes and a progressive tax system.
