Fairfield County historically has been known as a suburban ideal for those who worked in Manhattan and wanted to live in an environment away from the city. But over the years, business has grown, financial companies have moved in and the urban lifestyle has taken over. Whether you can still classify the area as suburbia is up for debate.
"It still is suburbia, I think, to a lot of people who work in New York," said Edward Deak, a professor of economics at Fairfield University. "And if you get into the low-density zoning that you find in some of the most western communities, that still looks pretty suburban and semirural."
