THERE are many facts about President Emilio F. Aguinaldo that are not generally known to the public, revealing him as a man of high character and integrity.
Informed of the forthcoming Tejeros Assembly (March 22-23, 1897), where the revolutionary leaders agreed to replace the Katipunan with a revolutionary government, Aguinaldo publicly expressed his support for General Edilberto Evangelista to be the president of the government. General Evangelista however, was killed in a Spanish counter-offensive on February 17. Aguinaldo was not present when the assembly was held but Aguinaldo was elected president without his knowledge.
