Judie Evans had noticed that sometimes things were missing from the refrigerator, and in the morning she would find dirty dishes in the sink. But it was only when her son came to stay with her while she recovered from back surgery that she discovered that she herself was the midnight snacker. One time, he found her making eggs and bacon in the middle of the night. "I don't even like eggs," she said.
Another time he heard her unlock the front door, then walk down the hall of her Plymouth apartment building. And she has no memory of doing any of it.
"He was afraid I was having dementia," said Evans, 59.
