Mar. 22--Barbara DuBois wants more than two horses -- she once had 16 -- but these days, she can't afford to feed any more equine mouths.
Like horse owners across the Inland area, DuBois is feeling the pinch from a run-up in hay prices that makes the rising gas prices of the past year seem reasonable. More expensive hay has increased the cost of owning a horse by several hundred dollars a year.
"For what I pay now for two horses, I could have fed four a year ago," said DuBois, who lives west of Temecula. "A few years ago, I could have fed eight."
