The feral pigs of Crawford County continue to be an enigma for the Department of Natural Resources and landowners.
Although the pigs exist, nobody knows for sure how they became established and they often move considerably, which makes them difficult to pattern.
Dave Matheys, a DNR wildlife biologist in Viroqua, spent several hours trying to spot the pigs from the air in late February when snow was on the ground. Although he saw lots of wild turkeys and deer, he saw no wild pigs.
