Mar. 23--TAMARAC -- Two votes on Wednesday, characterized by city officials as perfunctory and by city residents as disappointing, moved forward a builder's desire to replace two golf courses with town houses and single-family homes.
Prestige Homes, which owns the Monterey and Sabal Palm golf courses near Commercial Boulevard and Florida's Turnpike, is trying to convert the property's use from recreation to residential, with a plan to put up more than 700 homes. The plan has encountered stiff opposition from residents who face trading golf course views for crowded streets.
