UW Hospital will close its fertility clinic by the end of June and send its several hundred patients elsewhere.
The clinic, in operation since May 1983, is the only one in Madison offering specialized fertility procedures that require a laboratory, such as egg retrieval and in vitro fertilization.
Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Brunette said Wednesday that the decision to close the Infertility/Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic results from the hospital's strategic planning process and its efforts to focus resources on other clinical programs.
