Oct. 1 deadline lifted for Unocal, Chevron, Ultramar
Three of Los Angeles County's largest oil refiners last week were granted exemptions to tougher new California standards on diesel fuel emissions slated to kick in Oct. 1. The exemptions were vehemently opposed by competing refiners that have already agreed to comply with the state's new regulations. The competing refiners had argued that granting the exemptions to some refiners and not others would be unfair.
