Mar. 24--The Beaumont Civic Center received a six-month reprieve from its scheduled July demolition on Thursday.
City Manager Kyle Hayes said the venue at 701 Main St. should be available to the public while the Julie Rogers Theatre remains closed because of hurricane damage and its planned renovation.
The change in fortune for the 32-year-old Civic Center means events may be booked through the end of the year instead of only through June, as originally planned when Hayes announced his downtown renovation plan last November.
