Mar. 25--HARLINGEN -- In the short story "Soldier's Home," Ernest Hemingway told of a World War I Marine just returned from the horrors of the Argonne Forest.
Back in Kansas, little had changed on the home front. Few residents of the Marine's hometown knew or cared much about the experiences of returning soldiers or their problems.
Soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines aren't always able to easily adjust to the home front. Some turn to groups, such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, where they can mingle with fellow former GIs.
