Hospitals open centers to battle heart attacks
Emergency chest pain centers are spreading like wild fire as Cleveland-area hospitals strive to reduce the frequency of heart attacks and to head off unnecessary admissions.
In the last three months, University Hospitals of Cleveland, MetroHealth St. Luke's Medical Center and all four hospitals in the Meridia Health System have opened chest pain centers. Parma Community General and Lakewood hospitals have similar operations in place but haven't dubbed them chest pain centers per se.
