Article: Resurrection of a book: in 1987, a modest, 48-page homemade publication--Basel: A Cultural Experience--was born. Its conception was the result of numerous questions from my children as to why some streets and bridges had such unusual names.(GOING PLACES)

Back then, everything was unusual, foreign and confusing. We were a young and naive American family who had moved to Basel in 1972. But the book developed into a passion, fuelled by my own curiosity and my friendships with two knowledgeable members of the American Women's Club in Basel. During its lifetime, 2,000 copies were sold.

Over the years, this passion for the city increased--and more questions arose. Three years ago, at the urging of the American Women's Club, I began work on a new edition featuring 505 photos, museum images and original artwork in black/ white and colour.
