One of the most notable "emergency" Microsoft bugs fixed last year was the Zotob worm. The pesky Zotob wiggled its way into Windows 2000 users' computers through a vulnerability in the Plug and Play component, a feature that allows users to add devices without restarting their computer.

Users with Zotob-infected computers had malware - software designed to infiltrate and/or damage a computer system without the owner's consent - downloaded onto their PCs. The worm would then use the infected computer to find more PCs to infect.
