EDITORIAL: Montana meth campaign: model for New Mexico?(Editorial)

Mar. 27--Amid nationwide panic and overreaction to the very real threat of methamphetamines, New Mexico is taking a measured approach: Early this month, Gov. Bill Richardson signed a bill requiring buyers of a popular decongestant to show identification and sign onto a customer log. That's a tad intrusive on the privacy of ordinary folks with the sniffles -- but it's an obstacle to mass purchases of pseudoephedrine, which meth-makers cook into "crank," as it's known and loved by its addle-brained consumers.
