Early in the 20th century, archaeologists unearthed an ancient cleaning plant in Pompeii. As a history buff and drycleaner, the site always interested me. "Did they have slick rails and pneumatic equipment?" I wondered.
I found a few photos and short descriptions of the site in museum guidebooks, but black-and-white photos of the ancient laundry were only available when I researched it in the early '80s. More recently, I ran across a few updated color photos of Pompeii, and my urge to tour the site was reborn.
