The IPA TouchPoints survey from IPA, a professional institute for UK advertising, media and marketing communications agencies, has revealed that an increase in e-mail and text messaging has resulted in declining use of handwriting.

The survey was based on 5,000 people who were asked to update an electronic diary every 30 minutes for a week.

IPA said only 13% of written communication is made by pen and paper, compared to around 50% by e-mail and 29% by text message. Some 39% of the over-65s still use pen ...
