Pilot electricity market to begin in eastern China, despite problems in northeast
Shanghai. March 29. INTERFAX-CHINA - A pilot program to bring market forces to bear in the eastern Chinese electricity sector will begin on April 3, according to the Eastern China Grid Corporation, and the program is going ahead despite the failings of a similar scheme launched in the northeast.
The program will involve all coal-fired generation units with a capacity of over 100 MW, and 10% of all the electricity generated in the region will be bought and sold on a free market basis. Plants will compete with each other to provide power at cheaper prices and adjust their ...
