After two rounds of secret ballot voting on Feb. 2, House Republicans elected Congressman John Boehner (OH-8th) to the Majority Leader post, ousting interim Majority Leader Roy Blunt (MO-7th). Rep. Blunt had occupied the position since last September when Rep. Toro DeLay (TX-22nd) was forced to step down in light of indictment charges of campaign finance violations.
The Majority Leader is elected by his/her party members in the House or Senate to lead their legislative agenda, promote passage of the party's issue priorities, and coordinate legislative efforts with the Minority Leader, the other chamber, and the White House.
