The takeover of bookseller Ottakar's by the HMV Group has been cleared by the Competition Commission.

The HMV Group currently owns the chain of HMV music stores and the Waterstone's bookshops.

The company offered GBP4.40 per share - or a total of some GBP96.4m - to take over the Ottakar's group last year, in a rival bid to one previously made by a management team at Ottakar's. That bid has now lapsed.
