MILAN - Defense attorneys for Roberto Cavalli said they would appeal a Florence court's decision that found the Italian designer guilty of tax evasion.

A judge sentenced Cavalli to 14 months in prison last Thursday following almost four years of trial.

However, an Italian judicial technicality will likely exempt the designer from ever serving a day in prison. The clause gives judges discretionary rights to suspend sentences of less than two years under the pretext that the convicted person won't recommit the same crime.
