FOUR soft drinks were taken off the shelves yesterday after they were found to contain the potentially cancer- causing chemical benzene.
The move was prompted by the Food Standards Agency, which tested 150 of the best- selling drinks in the UK.
Although there is no official legal limit for benzene in soft drinks, regulators in Britain set a maximum contamination limit in tap water of one part per billion.
The World Health Organisation sets a more general advisory limit for drinks of ten parts per billion.
