Folk festivals are synonymous with great music, friendly people and life-long memories. What they often are not associated with in this day and age are social causes, especially ones that involve donkeys, farm tours and alternative food production. Indeed, the annual Harvest Moon Festival in Clearwater, Manitoba, is no ordinary music festival, and neither is the society it has spawned.
Nestled in the Pembina Valley two and a half hours southwest of Winnipeg, the town of Clearwater is home to about 100 inhabitants, the majority of whom spend their days farming wheat, canola, flaxseed and cattle.
