Not surprisingly, William M. Griswold has been thinking a lot about art since he came to Minneapolis in October as new director of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Connoisseurs make pilgrimages to the museum, and institutions from New York to Paris borrow treasures from it, but Griswold, 45, thinks the place merits even more recognition.
"This collection should be far better known than it is," he said on a recent stroll through the galleries. "We are far more than a regional museum; in many areas, China for example, our collection is one of the very strongest in the U.S."
