Apr. 3--Larry Abbott has turned what once was a sales incentive at his food-distribution business into a full-fledged business of his own. The former chief of Abbott Foods is joining with a former employee to create Aquatic Adventures, a store and training center for scuba divers. Abbott plans to build a 22,000-square-foot center in Hilliard, at the site of a former steakhouse. Aquatic Adventures will feature two pools: a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool and a diving-instruction tank that will be 12 feet at its deepest point. One use of the diving tank will be to teach people who want to dive but aren't certified.
