The recent media brouhaha over exaggerations and fabrications in James Frey's bestselling addiction memoir A Million Little Pieces--which stemmed as much from media-diva Oprah Winfrey's revoked imprimatur on the book as from its bestseller status--can hardly seem surprising to anyone familiar with either the history or the difficulties of composing life writing.
