Winnipeg is one of the most historically-rich cities in Canada. Prior to contact, the forks of the rivers was a gathering place for the Plains tribes. In the era of the furs, Red River served as the supply point for the trade and it became the homeland for the Metis nation as well as the Selkirk Colony.
